Lower Moravia Biosphere Reserve

     

    In 2004 Moravské naftové doly became one of the founders of the Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve Public Benefit Corporation and Moravské naftové doly desires by a non-governmental organization to contribute to the development of the region together with conversation of the high quality of the environment.

    Apart from Pálava Protected Landscape Morava Biosphere Reserve encompasses also the floodplain forests at the confluence next to village Lanžhot to the village Mikulčice and furthermore the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape with its unique landscape and historic buildings that has already been evaluated by UNESCO once in 1996 with inscription on the World Heritage List. The term Biosphere Reserve is an international term for areas that are significant for people of a region from environmental point of view.

    Other founders, except for two companies active on the territory of the Reserve (Moravské naftové doly and Lesy ČR) was also the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic, Břeclav District Chamber of Commerce and Czech Union for Nature Conservation. The main objective of the new public benefit corporation will be to elaborate a new strategy of the basic development programmes of a sustainable economics on the reserve territory. In the Czech Republic it is the very first time that a biosphere reserve was administered by a non-governmental organization. Till these days UNESCO has inscribed six biosphere reserves and so far they are have been represented by unions for nature conversations­.lastí.
